The Colors of Marvel's Super Hero Island Evoke Strong Emotions

I wasn't always a Marvel fan but after developing a healthy obsession with Universal Orlando and Thor (or should I say, Chris Evans), I'm quickly becoming one.  I am fascinated with the films based on Marvel characters and though I would not classify myself on the same level as some Marvel enthusiasts, I enjoy looking up each character and their comic book history on the interwebs.

It's a scientific fact that colors evoke strong psychological responses.  Did you ever notice that fast food restaurants almost always use the color red in a major way because it enhances appetite while blue can suppress appetite?

As guests first view Marvel Super Hero Island at Universal's Islands of Adventure, a rush of color hits you in the face with a superhuman force!  This "island" of villains and heroes is a feast for the eyes with a multitude of vivid colors.  Towering classic Marvel comic artwork is almost too much for a guest's mind to take in.  The characters reach upwards several stories high and reach across several storefronts and buildings creating a mentally provoking superhuman force.  The images create a story of villainy and crime fighting with color, whit and drama.

Yellow

The color yellow usually makes you feel happy and friendly, but yellow can also have a darker warning side.  This is probably why the mutant comic character, Wolverine, is depicted in mostly yellow. He's a hero with a dark side.  His depiction is very effective with his metal claws creating an archway to walk under.

Rogue also has similar villian/hero qualities.

Blue

Blue is a color which represents the feelings of serenity and invites trust.  For this reason, blue is the perfect color for Captain America.  With touches of red, he is the hero whose mission is to  protect and makes us feel at ease when he's near.

Red

Red brings out passion and aggression.  Captain America's red, white and blue costume reveals much about his character.  The white reveals his worthiness and the red, his passion for justice.  Spiderman also has a great deal of red in his costume.  Like the captain, he is an aggressive hero.  You'll also find red in Thor's cape revealing his passionate desire to protect humans and fight villains.

Green

Green commonly represents nature and prosperity, and that's true when you think of the prosperity that The Incredible Hulk coaster, a favorite coaster in Orlando, has brought to Universal Orlando.  But green is also associated with a sickly feeling and perhaps something that is just not right.  The Hulk's green represents this feeling.  He's not what was he was meant to be.  He's a hero and with a villain ready to burst out at any moment. Electro and Dr. Doom also represent the darker intentions of the color green.

Black and Purple

Black and Purple are two colors that perfectly represent X-Men's heroine, Storm.  Black is powerful, sophisticated and edgy while purple is luxurious, mysterious and romantic.  Storm's depiction at her ride, Storm Force Acceletron, exudes her power and edge but also mystery and romance.  Her white hair also symbolizes her heroic character.

So the next time you visit Islands of Adventure, don't just rush to the rides.  Stop and truly absorb the artwork and color of the land.
