Dinner at the Rib Room at NOLA's Omni Royal Orleans
New Orleans is a world renown historic destination and probably best known for the crazy shenanigans happening on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter, the historic French and Spanish neighborhood, which is where the city was founded on the banks of the mighty Mississippi River.
But did you know that "Nola" is a fantastic romantic destination? If you are looking for a fantastic dinner in a romantic setting check this out.
The Hotel
If you want a lovely night in the historic district in the middle of all the draws of the French Quarter--live jazz, night clubs, dive bars, shopping and world class restaurants--the Omni Royal Orleans Hotel is an excellent choice. It is located on St Louis Street (the original hotel on this site was the St. Louis Hotel) and in a perfect spot with luxury rooms, a fine dining restaurant, coffee bar and a welcoming lobby lounge.
The Restaurant
The Rib Room is in a special class of restaurants in Nola. It is a fine dining restaurant in a group with other fine restaurants such as Antoine's, Arnaud's, Galatoire's and Brennan's. It features all day dining as well as a weekend Jazz Brunch menu and during the holidays, it features a Reveillon--special four course menu.
On our night out in September, we didn't stay at the hotel, but we did valet park in the parking garage. We arrived early as we like to do so that we could wander through the amazing lobby and have a cocktail in the bar.
When seated we began with the culinary adventure with the Fried Oysters Pastis. We shared these which were lightly breaded Louisiana oysters on a bed of creamed spinach with roasted red peppers and feta crumbles. We then were served the Chilled Roasted Beets Salad--pecan crusted goat cheese over baby arugula, beets, pickled red onions and beet & poppy seed dressing (I could have made a meal out of this and this is a great vegetarian option). Oh the decadence of the almost palm sized pecan crusted goat cheese ball!
Next was arguably the best Creole Turtle Soup found in the city--a thickly rich deep brown broth with dark turtle meat.

On to the entrees! My partner has a love of pork chops and in a restaurant with a name like the Rib Room, there were high expectations.
Grilled Double Cut Pork Chop
The Grilled Double Cut Pork Chop is a mastery of flavors from the sweetness of the rosemary tomato jam and the saltiness of the tamarind glaze. While in Rome...I order the Slow Roasted Prime Rib.
